Downloading and Reading Books

How long do downloads generally take?

The length of time a download takes depends on several factors, such as the speed of your internet connection, the number of people accessing the network at a given time, and the size of the file to be downloaded. For example, if we take a DAISY zip file that is 150-200 MB in size, the download may take 2 minutes or less on high speed internet or on a slower connection about 3-5 minutes, the length of time it would take to retrieve a book from a shelf and return to the circulation desk.

How many books can I borrow at a time, and do I have to return them?

You can borrow as many books as you like, and you don’t have to “return” the ones you’ve downloaded yourself. If your library gave you books on CDs or flash drives, please ask your library about their borrowing policies.

Please note that by using Accessible Reading BC, you have agreed to our Terms and Conditions of Use which require that you are eligible for Accessible Reading BC, that the books you download are for personal use only, and that you will not violate the rights of the books’ copyright holders.
